Kathleen Chambers was born in Leeds in 1879 into a family with two older sisters. Tragedy struck early in her life when her father passed away when she was just three years old. Her upbringing was overseen by her guardian, Ernest Gray, a Conservative Party MP. Kathleen worked as his personal secretary but became disillusioned with the party\u2019s stance on women\u2019s suffrage, leading her to support socialist initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
